Physical Education at Highfield Humanities College Netball, Football, Rugby, Rounders, Cricket and Athletics are just a few of the sports our pupils enjoy. We have teams in all local competitions and we usually win! A highly motivated, dynamic team of 5 specialist teachers lead a strong, successful department and provide a multitude of opportunities for all pupils to fulfil their potential. The ethos of the governments ‘Every Child Matters’ document is central to department development whilst delivering broad and varied high quality Physical Education. Curriculum All pupils have access to the following curriculum:
GCSE Physical Education is a popular option, at Key Stage 4, an average of 60 pupils per cohort chooses to study PE and / or Dance in depth. Ever improving results have been achieved. Our results are now one of the leading subjects in the school. During the schools most recent OFSTED Inspection in March 2004 the PE department received the following praise:
Also a recent GCSE Examiner commented that our pupils were the most focused she has seen during many visits to schools in the region. An Annual Athletics Meeting is held each June at the Stanley Park, where our youngsters are able to compete against each other and themselves in terms of their personal best. Results are very positive with Highfield Humanities College having an excellent reputation for sportsmanship, reliablity and achievement. All of which are celebrated at and Annual Sports Awards evening. Outdoor Education is a real strengths of our school, this year we have around 40 pupils taking part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. The PE Department has two trips lined up for the coming years; the first being a Watersports holiday to France in May 2006 and after a very successfull ski trip to Austria this year the 2008 ski trip will be to Killington in USA (with a stop over in New York). |
