Her PowerPoint subject was Manchester Cathedral. RE is one of the three lead subjects at Highfield Humanities College and prides itself on its outstanding GCSE results. In 2005, Highfield's results were the best in Blackpool! These results were achieved by the departments 'blend' of youth and experience as well as the subject's high profile within the school. Also in 2005, RE led the way in entering 57 Year 10 pupils for their RE GCSE a year early, with all 57 gaining C or above. Pupils are aware of the importance of RE in our diverse society and how employers look favourably on open-minded individuals. At Key Stage 3, pupils are encourgaged to make sense of the world around them by sharing their experiences of being human. The department follows the Lancashire Agreed Syllabus, which requires that 50% of curriculum time is spent studying Christianity with the remaining 50% of the time studying the other major religions of the world. Pupils in RE are encourgaed to be independant learners in a safe and challenging environment. They are encouraged to use ICT and reflet on what they have learned and how they learned it. RE aims to encourage 'well rounded' young people who will develop life-long skills as well as equipping them with the necessary qualifications to succeed in the 21st Century. |
