Maths and ICT
Maths and ICT will work together in our new school building.
There are 7 currently Mathematics classrooms and 4 purpose built computer rooms, all equipped with interactive whiteboards. In our new building there will also be larger open learning spaces called Inspiration Hubs both Maths and ICT will have access to these large working areas as well as smaller 'break out' rooms.
Laptops are currently available for use in class and teachers book these as appropriate. In September we will switch to the Apple System and pupils will access the internet and be able to work online using iPod Touches, iPad2s and Apple Notebooks. We are very excited about becoming an 'Apple' school as we see the technology supporting our learning in a much more creative and enjoyable way than we can currently achieve using Windows PCs.
It is important that pupils become familiar with the functions of their scientific calculator as they are required for the GCSE examination. For this reason we ask students to bring their own scientific calculator to all maths lessons in addition to a pen, pencil and ruler.
The Maths and ICT Departments promote independent learning and encourage students to take responsibility for their own progress.
Guidance is given by class teachers as to what steps should be taken to improve on any areas of concern.
Further information on the schemes of work including the learning objectives within each unit and information on assessments is in the process of being added to our VLE: Fronter.
