Great web-site, I just wish there was something like this when I was around.
I am currently working for the Inland Revenue and studying for a degree in social sciences in my spare time.
Thank-you to all the teachers at Highfield that helped and supported me through my difficult time, especially Mr. Hall, Mrs. C Young and Mr. Digman.

NICE WEB SITE, 'WHEN I WERE A LAD, WE DIDN'T HAVE SUCH THINGS, I WENT TO COLLEGE & THE COMPUTER THERE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A VDU, (MAKES ME FEEL OLD)'. IT'S GOOD TO SEE THAT THE OLD SCHOOL IS STILL GOING STRONG. HAS THE UNIFORM CHANGED? WHAT'S WITH THE BLUE BLAZERS?
a BIG HELLO TO ALL THE OLD PUPILS OUT THERE.

Great - a site dedicated to Highfield!! It started for me in 1968 - my first form master was Mr (Harold)Hinchliffe (General Science) - Miss Bloomer was Headmistress. I remember being told off by her for not writing on the top lines of my exercise book!! After she retired we progressed to mixed boys & girls classes and Mr Woodcock became Headmaster, he used to drift along the corridors, graduation gown flowing like batman!. Mr (Bill) Yates was Deputy Head, a powerful character, he taught English Literature and enforced law & order. In those days the cane was in use frequently, on one occasion in Mr Mortimer's class (Geography), everybody was caned for a mid-class riot, all except the girls that is. Other teachers I remember are Mr Marsh (Science), Mr Rothwell and Mr Swift (English), Mr Mills and Mr Watts (Maths)- the latter was a real character, a teacher and a classroom entertainer, but he tragically died, Mr Melhuish (Geography), Mr Kay (History), Mr Roberts (Engineering Drawing), Mr Williams, Hitler as we used to call him (German!), Mr Sanderson (Woodwork), Mr Warner (Metalwork) and Mr Taylor, PE. I have many memories too numerous to mention in detail, but here are some: School Youth Hostelling trips to the Lake District in the summer (run by Mr Warner), playing in and eventually captaining the hockey and cricket teams, going to London to see Romeo & Juliet, the whole school gathering in the playground to watch Concorde fly past before it entered service, a trip to Snowdonia and seeing Mr Williams sledging (!!), teachers v pupils cricket matches, camping in the school quadrangle as part of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme (not many tents were standing in the morning!!). I left Highfield in 1973 and now work in London for a Japanese pharmaceutical company as Head of Clinical Research.I can't see many others from my 'era' in the guestbook - so come on all you fellow ex-pupils and ex-teachers, let's hear from you!!!
