Cinema quality images, multimedia integration and a fast pace attract and maintain student’s attention but when combined with the Promethean ACTIVstudio screen tools and National Curriculum resources every student is engaged!

One of the most exciting elements of ACTIVstudio for teachers and pupils is the attention grabbing and time saving resource library that helps teachers to create dynamic lessons across the National Curriculum.

The stimulating multi-sensory approach to teaching and learning is made easy with ACTIVstudio.

  • Graphics – access the extensive resource library, insert your own photographs and video clips and add pictures from websites
  • Sound –insert sounds into ACTIVstudio flipcharts quickly and easily
  • Text – present text to the whole class, and highlight important words and phrases to be discussed
  • Kinaesthetic learning - invite students to the board or provide groups with an ACTIVslate to give them control of the ACTIVboard from their desk.

The interactive Whitebords have been used in the following ways at Highfield Humanities College:

English Literature – use the hide and reveal tools to hide words in a text. Discuss with the pupils which words they feel are hidden and why they would be appropriate.

Mathematics – special tools, such as graph paper are readily available in the Resource Library. This enables the teacher to prepare examples and tasks using graphs before a lesson. Colours and the line tool allow points and lines to be plotted in advance or during the lesson, with the varied colours adding clarity to descriptions. Additional features such as a transparent protractor and ruler can allow further analysis and discussion.

Geography – Full-colour maps can be displayed quickly and easily. Zoom in for a more detailed view. Links to sound and video clips can be added which can add atmosphere to any description and help to make pictures and maps more memorable. Drag and drop labels onto maps or geographical features.

Science – Drawing diagrams is made easier and clearer through the bank of ready-made annotations and photographs. Covering and revealing text and images can provide a useful stimulus to discussion in class. Link direct to the internet or to sound and short video clips to enhance understanding at any point in a lesson.

History - Images from the past in full colour can easily be displayed on your interactive whiteboard. Use the pen in various colours for annotating over text and pictures as discussion arises in the classroom. Jump between different pages in your lesson to look in more detail at aspects of a topic and visit the internet live during your lesson to see historical websites.

MFL – play an audio recording of a French text through the interactive whiteboard while displaying the text on the interactive whiteboard to give pupils reading and listening practice simultaneously. Controlling sound and video files at the board allows short segments to be replayed easily. Display pictures from target-language culture and use different colours to reinforce grammar patterns and help learning.
