In the first game of the new season the Highfield side is again Captained by Lancashire under 16 protegé Thomas Bradley, the team finished second to Fleetwood in last years year 10 competition and are aiming to go one better this year.

Highfield Humanities College Year 11 Rugby League team turned on the flair to register there first win of the season, but it wasn't without an opening scare for the home team. Highfield took an early lead with a powerful surging run by Matthew Broughton.

Palatine were quick to reply with a well worked try of there own which seemed to catch the Highfield defence unaware, an error which they must look to resolve for future games if they are to progress further.

Highfields strong, direct running was making holes in the Palatine defence and as a result they were camped in the Palatine half for most parts of the first half, they notched up tries by Garry Long, Thomas Bradley, Ryan Norris and Nathan Trainor.

The first half finished with the score at 28-8.

Much of the same, coupled with more support for team members and varied passing were the orders of the Highfield half time team talk.

Highfield continued to dominate the second half and produced more flowing rugby, coupled with hard attacking runs. The Palatine defence worked well and some big hits were produced by both sides.

At the final whistle the score was 50-12 in favour of Highfield, both sides produced some great rugby and the game was played in an exceptional manor.  Palatine Sports College were only able to field 11 players on this occasion, as a result it was agreed that each team would play with 11 players - their commitment and never say die attitude was a credit to them and the College.

A mention must also go to the year 10 Highfield students who also figured in this game.

Highfield is currently awaiting confirmation of fixture dates with Fleetwood, Montgomery and Hodgson.  Rugby training is ran by Mr Taylor and is open to year 10 & 11 students every Monday after school.
