humanitiesExtra Curricular Activities at Highfield Humanities College

Some of the Extra Curricular Activities at Highfield are educational, like extra revision classes before exams or tests and MAP sessions in Year 11.  A main event is the Easter Revision school for Year 11 students who are about to sit their GCSE exams. Every year, all students are encouraged to attend extra classes in all subjects in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

As well as the School's legendary Year 8 camp which has been a long running tradition at Highfield, we have several trips each year to foreign countries including France and Belgium, these are generally arranged by the Modern Foreign Languages Department to provide pupils with an authentic experience and hands on learning.

In previous years, pupils have had the opportunity to go skiing to  Austria and USA organised by the PE Department.  These trips are open to most year groups and are suitable for pupils who have skied before and also for beginners, as full tuition is provided.

We arrange weekends away at various Outward Bound centres in the UK such as the Eric Wright Trust - Waterpark based on Coniston, this provides an excellent centre for water sports of various types including sailing, kayaking, raft building etc.  Waterpark itself is an old Monks manor house which has its own chef (not dinner lady) and is well liked by both students and staff!

Sport is popular at Highfield and Netball, Football, Rugby, Rounders, Cricket and Athletics are just a few of the sports our pupils enjoy. We have teams in all local competitions and we usually win! The School has an open policy for all sport practices – it's quite simple; all are welcome! Competition is provided via Inter House and Inter School Tournaments and Leagues and an Annual Athletics Meeting is held each year at the Stanley Park, where our pupils are able to compete against each other and themselves in terms of their personal best.

There are a number of other clubs and activities organised by the different departments in school held daily at lunchtime and after school closes e.g.

•Reading Club in the Library every Thursday lunchtime with Mrs Simpkin, the school's Librarian.
•The Duke of Edinburgh Award Team meets every Tuesday after school.
•There is a Dance club after school - see Mrs Dodgson for further details.
